It’s been so hot in LA!  I’ve been sweating so much. It’s really important to stay hydrated and especially to prioritize electrolytes. It’s been hard to make things in this heat so I like to stay cool by making my own electrolyte drinks at home and you can, too! It’s really simple and I bet you already have the ingredients laying around.

Electrolytes - minerals with an electrical charge - help balance the amount of water in your body and your pH level, and maintain heart rate and rhythm.

Key electrolytes like sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium are electrically charged minerals that, when dissolved in fluids, allow your cells to conduct the electrical signals needed for proper heart function, muscle movement, and other metabolic processes. An imbalance of electrolytes can disrupt these functions, leading to symptoms ranging from fatigue to serious health issues.

Here is my recipe to make an at home electrolyte water, which include includes all the necessary minerals.

Per 4 cups of water:

-1/2 tsp sea salt, Himalayan salt or table salt (I prefer sea salt)
- squeeze the juice from 1 lemon
- A couple of tbs of honey (optional, but it definitely adds to the flavor and gives you a bit more energy)

And that’s it! I like to make a pitcher of it and keep it in my refrigerator. It really helps with the heat.

Stay cool everyone !
