Haven't been able to get over the verifications today. I am sure all of you can understand when a client is being needy today. But like you, I bill hourly so I gotta stick around. While I'm here, I'll tell how you how I got into moderating
I started a sub where people to pictures of their elfs yeh it's called r/elfie We had a top mod there who though basically I'll just add a bunch of mods and when they all leave, I'll do it again, in the meantime I will mod like 10 pics a month and I wont get kicked out. Well this top mod was so afraid that one of these mods might actually remove him from the top mod position, he didnt want to give anyone permissions. You know how hard it is to mod when you dont have permission to change the automod, or even ban users? Yeah it was rough.
I got tired of it after a while and then I went to a sub that dealt with Military Inteligence being warm, yep thats the one /MIHot Well if you thought a top mod who didnt do anything was bad, wait till you see a top mod that just randomly did things, Who needs an automod, let's just let upvotes decide if it is ok. What do you mean I can't ban posters if they don't send me nudes? It's my sub. I found out just how much the Reddit admins will do, they'll say "Sorry, but we don't like to get involved" Which is always a fun time.
Well then the OnlyFans101 was looking for mods, so I hopped over to there, and it's been a lot different it's much nicer being part of a team and we have really got to implement some cool things. We get a lot of unique situations where people spam, upvote manipulate, and ban evade which of course Reddit gave us little to no support in working on, so it has definitely been a challenge.
Some people like to do sudoku, some people like to do wordle, well modding is my trivial puzzle that I work on. Plus I get to see way more boobs than you do in Wordle, but only a few less than Sudoku, they are a nasty bunch there.
Of course now Reddit has decided that the API is hurting them so they want to take it away. They say it's free for mod tools, but there's a limit on just how much that mod tool can use the API before it gets charged. Some developers have just said fuck it, why should I even work on anything at Reddit now? And I dont blame them a bit. Reddit could easily say, hey you took donations for your work, so we're going to charge you for your API, you either work for free or you don't work for me.
That's what they have been telling us mods all along, so why not the Dev's. But writing code takes talent, sure you can grab any yahoo off the street and they can operate the mod tools, just like a blind man can drive a car. They can't see where it's going, and they aren't going to do a great job, but yeah technically they can drive it.
So anyway, we're going to do our best to seat everyone in the burning theater until it goes away, but I'd be lying if I said it is still as fun as before.
Maybe I'll start playing Sudoku.
