Princess Jasmine, one of the most recognizable of the Disney princesses, is drawn from the ancient Islamic folklore tale, One Thousand and One Nights and modernized by Disney to follow a romantic plot similar to Audrey Hepburn's Roman Holiday.
Interestingly, the design of Princess Jasmine was based on the actress Jennifer Connolly, and the character's name ("Jasmine") because it was one of the top names of the year in which the movie was made!
