Welcome back to history class - this is a fun one for today:
I'm wearing a 1960s silk quilted dressing gown over 1990s Victoria Secret lingerie. Victoria's Secret has been around since the 1970s. It was started by a husband and wife team motivated by the difficulty in being able to comfortably purchase sexy lingerie without side-eyes from salespeople.
At the time, lingerie was mostly considered for special occasions only - notably honeymoons - and staged next to naughty costumes and other novelty items. Not for daily wear sexiness kind of thing. At the time, women's daily wear panties and bras were plain patterns and designs for everyday wear.
Inspired by the brand, Frederick's of Hollywood, the team behind Victoria's Secret aimed to make lingerie more mainstream; to be worn and enjoyed regardless of occasion or reason.
They named it Victoria's Secret after the refinement and luxury of Queen Victoria's era, and the "secret" being what sexy item might be under one's clothes.
