Ever wanted to see comedian Larry Dean and comedian Sofie Hagen sit on a sofa in matching pink velour pyjamas? Wow, what a specific desire to have and I am happy to be able to provide you with just that.
This was the night of a big industry party in Edinburgh that Larry and I were meant to go to. Instead, we ended up staying home and dressing in our matching pyjamas and having a relaxed time.
I cannot stress enough the importance of community and friendship in stand-up. You don't have to get along with everyone - you don't have to befriend everyone. But be a nice person and find your people. You'll need someone to talk to who gets it.
And eventually - and this is the fun part - you get to see your friends grow into proper comedians who are on TV and stuff. And if you're a kind person, this makes you so excited for them. Watching a friend's Netflix show is such a thrill. It's one of the best things about the job.
(One of the worst is when your enemies are successful. Watching an enemy get a role in a Netflix show you love is awful. You know, hypothetically, of course...)
