Anyone else get a little delusional at 11pm and sketch out an example of how a summation equation that finds the area under a curve works on their mirror? No? Just me?

Anyway last night I pretended that my mother was interested in learning things (she’s not and that makes me horribly sad) and acted like I was teaching her the basics of calculus. Y’all my mother is the most anti intellectual human being I think you could possibly meet.

I remember my first calculus lesson, and I remember how the professor taught us that all calculus is is slicing something into a bunch of tiny pieces, figuring out the area of the known bits, makes some estimates on the others, and then adding it all together. Blew my mind. As someone who excelled at special geometry but SUCKED at basic arithmetic (dyslexia is a bitch) I LOVED exploring calculus in a theoretical sense. I could just picture it all in my mind so clearly. But I couldn’t do the actual math to save my life. Cue me making pacts with my friends in class who were good at math but sucked at theory— I’d explain the theory and they’d make the math work. Brilliant.

Anyway I was thinking about that last night and imagining teaching my mother. She’ll never listen, but I can fantasize… right? lol.

Anyway that’s why I have math on my mirror.

Okay I’ll see myself out now 😂
