oh boy did i slurp it!

i drove to my new city on a Friday and immediately ran into issues with the Airbnb. namely that it was up three flights of stairs (not disclosed in the listing), the AC wasn’t on, and the bed was not strong enough to support my weight. after sweating half to death trying to just make it to my room, i sat on the bed and it just cracked beneath me. at that point i knew i wasn’t going to be able to make this work for the next two weeks i had booked and immediately looked for other accommodations.

work started on a Monday, and it similarly had only stairs and no AC. the whole endeavor felt so frustrating and wrong. i struggled to stay awake at my new job because i was left in a corner to work through a digital training program, and the heat and stress from the move wiped me out. by Thursday i was fired, and i realized fuck… i’m unemployed, i’m homeless, it’s a global pandemic…

might as well take a socially distant solo road trip right? that’s a normal response to this situation for sure

so off i went! to the Jersey Shore, to NYC, then down to my friends place in Appalachia. it was a whirlwind two weeks, and even though i should have stopped there, it continued on into September. i was having the time of my life, i never wanted to go “home” - and truthfully, this was the very first time i caught a glimpse of what it meant to build a home within myself.
